Ural Alexandrite

This is the stone alexandrite is named for. Found in the Ural emerald mines in the 1830s and named after the future Tsar Alexander II, it is where the colour change was first seen and is still judged: green in daylight, warm red under a lamp.

We hold 63 loose stones, 0.2 to about 4 ct — 59 single and a few matched sets. Most are cushion, oval or round, the cuts that carry the shift across the face of the stone. Every one is photographed with its own colour, clarity, cut and size.
